Spec sheet05

Ninja AF100 series
2 lbs wings at 390°F for 22 to 26 minutes
Cosori Iconic
2 lbs wings at 400°F for 16 to 22 minutes, shake
Instant Vortex 6 qt
400°F for 20 to 30 minutes, turn partway
Philips HD9650
2 to 8 wings in one layer at 350°F for 14 to 18 minutes, shake
Safe internal temperature
165°F for all poultry, including wings (USDA FSIS)

Maker charts give chicken wings 14 to 30 minutes at 350°F to 400°F: Ninja 390°F for 22 to 26 minutes, Cosori 400°F for 16 to 22, Instant 400°F for 20 to 30 and Philips 350°F for 14 to 18. USDA FSIS says wings are safe at 165°F, so confirm with a thermometer.

The figures below are copied from each brand’s published chart. We have not cooked wings to arrive at them, and we do not offer a recipe. Use the row for your brand, then let the thermometer decide.

How long do chicken wings take in each brand’s air fryer?

Brand and model Amount listed Temperature Time Turning
Ninja AF100 series 2 lbs, drumettes and flats, tossed in 1 Tbsp oil 390°F 22 to 26 min Shake or toss often
Cosori Iconic 2 lbs 400°F 16 to 22 min Shake
Cosori Pro LE (CAF-L501) Not listed (Chicken preset default: 380°F, 20 min) Not listed Not listed Not listed
Instant Vortex and Vortex Plus 6 qt Not listed 400°F 20 to 30 min Turn food partway
Philips Premium Airfryer XXL (HD9650) 2 to 8 pieces, about 100 g (3 to 4 oz) each, in one layer 350°F 14 to 18 min Shake halfway

A few notes on reading this table:

  • The Cosori Pro LE has no food chart in its manual, only presets. Its Chicken preset is a general starting setting, not a wing instruction.
  • Philips counts wings by the piece, not by weight, and caps the load at one layer.
  • Instant gives no amount at all, so treat its 10-minute spread as a range to check against, not a target.
  • Maximum heat varies. The Ninja AF100 and Instant Vortex both top out at 400°F.

What temperature do chicken wings need to reach?

165°F. The USDA FSIS safe temperature chart lists “all poultry” at 165°F and names breasts, whole birds, legs, thighs and wings. Its air fryer page repeats the point: cooking times vary between machines, “but the safe internal temperature is always the same.”

Color is not a safe signal on its own. FSIS says “the only way to know food has been cooked to a safe internal temperature is to use a food thermometer.”

How do you check wings with a thermometer?

Wings are small, bony and uneven, which makes them easy to misread. FSIS gives three rules that apply directly:

  1. Go into the thickest part, away from bone, fat or gristle.
  2. For thin foods, go in from the side until the tip reaches the center.
  3. Check each piece. FSIS says pieces reach temperature at different times depending on size and where they sit.

Instant-read types suit wings because you check several pieces quickly at the end. FSIS says thermistor and thermocouple models read thin foods well. A leave-in probe is different: FSIS says not to leave a thermometer in food while cooking unless its maker says it is designed for that.

Why do the manuals say to shake or turn wings?

For consistent browning, in Ninja’s words. Its AF100 guide says food should sit in one even layer with no overlapping, and to shake overlapping food halfway through. Its chart adds a reminder to shake or toss often with silicone-tipped tongs.

The machines handle a pulled basket differently. Cosori and Instant pause or prompt you, while Ninja’s FAQ says the AF100 timer keeps running unless you press START/PAUSE. Our how to use an air fryer guide compares those steps.

Can you use a rack to fit more wings?

A layer rack adds a second level, and some air fryers ship with one. Ninja’s AF100 guide lists a stainless-steel multi-layer rack as “not included with all models.” But the wing times above are written for food on the crisper plate, and no chart here gives a time for a second layer.

If you use a rack, keep these manual rules in mind:

  • Clearance from the heating element. Cosori warns that heaped food may touch the coils and cause a fire hazard. Instant says overfilling can bring food into contact with the element.
  • Airflow. USDA FSIS says overcrowding can stop air from circulating enough to cook food properly, and suggests batches for large amounts.
  • Check both layers. Each rack sits at a different distance from the heat, so take a reading from pieces on each level.

Rack sizes, skewer racks and double-layer designs are covered in our air fryer racks and pans guide.

What about oil, sauce and smoke?

Ninja’s chart lists 1 tablespoon of oil for 2 pounds of wings. Cosori’s Pro LE manual caps added oil at 2 tablespoons and says liquid-marinated foods create splatter and smoke, so pat them dry first. It also says high-fat foods drip fat into the basket and suggests pouring it out after cooking.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature should chicken wings be when done?

USDA FSIS lists 165°F for all poultry, and its chart names wings specifically. Check with a food thermometer in the thickest part of each wing, away from the bone.

Should I flip or shake wings in the air fryer?

The manuals say yes. Cosori's Iconic chart and the Philips HD9650 food table say to shake wings, Instant's timetable says to turn them partway, and Ninja's chart recommends shaking or tossing often with silicone-tipped tongs.

How long do frozen wings take in an air fryer?

None of the manual charts on this page list frozen raw wings. Follow the package instructions, as Ninja and USDA FSIS both advise, and check that the wings reach 165°F.

Can I stack wings on a rack in the air fryer?

Ninja lists a multi-layer rack for some AF100 models, but none of these charts give times for a second layer. Keep food away from the heating element and check each piece with a thermometer.
