Air Fryer Racks and Pans: Layer Racks, Cake Barrels and Pizza Pans

Air fryer racks add a second layer of food, and pans let you cook batters, eggs and saucy dishes that would drip through a crisper plate. The right size depends on your basket’s inside measurements, not its quart rating. Leave space around and above the food so hot air can circulate and nothing touches the heating element.

What matters when buying an air fryer rack or pan

A few checks decide whether an accessory works or sits in a drawer.

• Inside basket size. Measure the floor and the depth. Round, square and rectangular baskets need different shapes. Makers rarely publish inside dimensions; our guide to measuring your air fryer basket walks through it.
• Headroom. Cosori’s Pro LE manual warns that heaping food can touch the heating coils and cause a fire hazard. A tall rack plus tall food can do the same.
• Airflow. Ninja’s AF160 FAQ explains that the crisper plate lifts food so air can flow under it for even cooking and crisping. A solid pan blocks that, so expect browning mainly on top.
• Material. Cosori’s manual says to always use heat-safe containers and to be extremely cautious with containers that are not metal or glass.
• Handles or lift tabs. Pans get hot. The same manual says not to touch accessories during or right after air frying.
• Cleaning. Ninja’s AF100 FAQ says the basket, crisper plate and any accessories can go in the dishwasher. For third-party pieces, follow their own care label.

Types of air fryer racks and pans

Layer racks and multi-layer inserts

A layer rack is a wire stand that sits over the food already in the basket, giving small items a second level.

SharkNinja sells its own. The Multi-Layer Insert (104KY100) is described as adding another layer for dehydrating snacks and raising food closer to the heating element. Its part page lists the AF100, AF101, AF150 and AF160 to AF162 families. For two-basket models, the DualZone Multi-Layer Rack (132KY100) sits on the crisper plate and is listed for the AD100A, DZ100, DZ201 and DZ250 families.

Cosori’s six-piece accessory set, sold in a 5.8-quart size, includes a rack with four skewers and a separate raised metal holder.

Cooking for a crowd: racks, batches and fill limits

A rack is the first thing people reach for when guests are coming. It helps, within limits the manuals spell out.

The charts assume one layer. Ninja’s AF100 owner’s guide says to arrange food in an even layer with no overlapping for consistent browning. No maker chart we have checked gives a time for food on a second level, so a rack adds room without adding a published setting.

Fill limits still apply. The same Ninja guide says not to overfill the basket, to prevent food contact with the heating elements. Cosori’s warning about heaped food touching the coils covers a loaded rack too.

Batches are the official answer. USDA FSIS says overcrowding can prevent enough air circulation to cook food properly, and that a large amount of food may be best cooked in batches instead of all at once.

In practice that points to a simple split. Use a layer rack for small, flat foods that cook quickly, check the top level first, and run dense or tall foods one batch at a time. Anything with meat or poultry gets a thermometer check on each level.

Broil racks

A broil rack lifts food toward the heating element for faster browning. SharkNinja’s DualZone Air Fryer Broil Rack (131KY100) is described as helping melt toppings and bringing food closer to the element for crisp results. It is listed for the AD100A, AD150, AD150A, DZ100, DZ201 and DZ250 families.

Because food sits higher, check it sooner than the recipe suggests.

Cake barrels, pizza pans and bakeware

Pans turn an air fryer into a small oven. A cake barrel is a deep round pan for cakes, bread and baked pasta. A pizza pan is shallow, for pizza, flatbreads and cookies.

Cosori’s accessory set for its 5.8-quart model includes both a cake pan and a pizza pan, plus a silicone mat and a silicone egg bites mold. That is a useful benchmark: the maker sized one set for one basket, and does not list it for its other models.

How to size a pan for your basket

1. Measure the inside of the basket at the floor, since many baskets taper.
2. Measure the depth from the floor to the rim.
3. Choose a pan a little smaller than the floor so you can lift it out and air can pass around the sides.
4. Check the height of pan plus food against the space below the heating element.

For a pan with silicone parts, check that its stated heat rating is above your air fryer’s maximum temperature.

Racks and trays for air fryer ovens

Air fryer ovens take flat accessories that slide onto rails, so drawer accessories rarely suit them.

• SharkNinja’s Foodi Digital Air Fry Oven Wire Rack (101SG100) is described as fitting up to 9 slices of toast and is listed for SP100-series ovens and several FT102 models.
• Its Premium Nonstick Sheet Pan (113SH100) is nanoceramic and dishwasher safe, listed for SP100, SP101, SP201, SP251, SP300, SP351 and FT models.

Glass air fryers are a special case

The Ninja Crispi uses glass containers with their own crisper plates. The owner’s guide says those crisper plates are dishwasher safe but not microwave or oven safe, and SharkNinja says only Ninja containers work with the PowerPod. Using racks and pans safely

• Do not overfill. Cosori’s manual links heaping food with coils and fire risk.
• Use oven mitts. Pans and racks stay hot after cooking.
• Put paper under food, never alone. If you line a pan with parchment, Cosori’s manual says never to put paper in without food on top.
• Keep drips in check. A pan catches fat that would normally drain through the crisper plate, so pour it off carefully.

Buying racks and pans on eBay

• Look for dimensions in inches and compare them with your basket measurements.
• Read “compatible with” as the seller’s claim. Only the maker’s own part page confirms fit for official parts, such as SharkNinja’s 104KY100 and 132KY100.
• Check materials and any stated heat rating.
• Check the returns policy, since sizing is the main risk.
