Manufacturer charts put salmon fillets at 380°F to 390°F for 6 to 13 minutes. Ninja lists two 4-ounce fillets at 390°F for 10 to 13 minutes, and Cosori’s Iconic chart lists a 1-inch fillet at 380°F for 6 to 12 minutes. USDA FSIS says fish is safe at 145°F, so confirm each fillet with a food thermometer.
These times come straight from the brands’ published charts. We have not cooked salmon to produce them and there is no recipe on this page. The liner section below shows why the right answer on parchment depends on your model.
How long does salmon take in each brand’s air fryer?
| Brand and model | Amount or thickness listed | Temperature | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ninja AF100 series | 2 fillets, 4 oz each, brushed with oil | 390°F | 10 to 13 min |
| Cosori Iconic | 1-inch fillet | 380°F | 6 to 12 min |
| Cosori Iconic | Thin fillet, 1/2 to 3/4 inch | 380°F | 6 to 8 min |
| Cosori Pro LE (CAF-L501) | Not listed (Seafood preset default: 350°F, 8 min) | Not listed | Not listed |
| Instant Vortex and Vortex Plus 6 qt | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
| Philips HD9650 | Salmon not listed (fish filets, about 120 g or 4 oz, 1 to 3 in one layer: 400°F, 9 to 12 min) | Not listed | Not listed |
What the gaps mean:
- Thickness drives the Cosori range. Its chart gives thin fillets a shorter window than 1-inch fillets at the same temperature.
- Presets are not salmon instructions. The Cosori Pro LE manual publishes preset defaults only; its Seafood preset is a starting point you can adjust.
- Instant’s timetable in the manual we checked covers shrimp and frozen fish sticks but not salmon.
- Philips lists a generic fish filet, not salmon. We show it for reference but have not treated it as a salmon time.
The full air fryer cooking times chart puts salmon next to wings, fries and chicken breast.
What temperature is salmon safe to eat?
145°F. The USDA FSIS safe temperature chart lists “fish and shellfish” at 145°F, and its air fryer page says “fish is safe at 145 degrees F.” FSIS also notes that each air fryer cooks at a different speed while the safe temperature stays the same.
Some brands print their own doneness guidance. We use only the FSIS figure here.
How do you check a salmon fillet with a thermometer?
A fillet is thin, so the angle matters. FSIS says to insert the thermometer through the side of thin foods until the tip reaches the center. It also says to check each piece, because pieces reach temperature at different times.
Look for a thermometer with a thin probe that reads quickly. FSIS says thermistor models “can measure temperature in thin and thick foods” and that thermocouples give the fastest reading. It advises against leaving any thermometer in food during cooking unless its maker says it is built for that.

Can you use parchment or a liner under salmon?
This is where brand rules split, so check your manual before you buy a liner.
| Brand | What the manual or FAQ says |
|---|---|
| Ninja AF100 series | “It is safe to use parchment paper in the air fryer basket.” Foil is also safe, per the FAQ. |
| Cosori Pro LE | “You may use parchment paper or foil.” Never put baking or parchment paper in without food on top, because moving air can lift it into the heating coils. |
| Cosori Iconic guide | Foil, parchment, an air fryer liner or a silicone mat “all work well,” with the same warning about lightweight liners. |
| Instant Vortex Slim | Do not cover the basket or any part of the appliance with foil. Food can go on the cooking tray “without using foil or other coverings.” |
| Philips HD9650 | If you use baking or parchment paper, never put it in without food on top. The Philips support FAQ does not recommend baking paper. |
So on an Instant model, the manual gives no approval for paper under the fish. The Ninja, Cosori and Philips HD9650 manuals allow parchment if food weighs it down, though the Philips support FAQ advises against baking paper.
Parchment or silicone?
Parchment is single use. Silicone liners are reusable. Only Cosori’s Iconic guide mentions silicone mats by name among the sources here. Whichever you choose, the Cosori rule applies: a liner must have food on it before the fan starts.
Sizing and material differences are covered in our air fryer liners guide. For foil specifically, see can you put foil in an air fryer.

What else do the manuals say that applies to fish?
- One layer. Philips lists fish filets as one layer, and Ninja’s guide says to avoid overlapping food. Philips also suggests placing the skin side down and adding some oil so the fillet does not stick.
- Pat dry. Cosori says liquid-marinated foods cause splatter and smoke and should be patted dry. Instant’s Vortex Slim manual says to pat moist food dry to avoid thick steam.
- No oil in the basket. Cosori, Instant and Philips all say not to fill the basket or pan with oil. Instant adds: “Do not spray cooking oil into the cooking chamber.”

Frequently asked questions
What temperature should salmon reach in an air fryer?
USDA FSIS says fish and shellfish are safe at 145°F. Insert the thermometer through the side of the fillet into the center, since FSIS says to go in from the side on thin foods.
Can I put parchment paper under salmon in an air fryer?
It depends on the brand. Ninja's AF100 FAQ says parchment is safe in the basket, and Cosori allows it but says never to use it without food on top. Instant's Vortex Slim manual says food can go right on the tray without coverings.
How long does frozen salmon take in an air fryer?
None of the manual charts on this page list frozen salmon. Follow the package instructions, which USDA FSIS recommends when available, and check that the fish reaches 145°F.
Do I need to flip salmon in the air fryer?
The charts here do not ask for it. Cosori's Iconic chart shows no shake or flip note for salmon, and Ninja's chart gives a general reminder to shake or toss food for best results.
